Shawn and Master Dominic met in Dead Reckoning and it wasn't long before sparks flew between this ancient vampire and the Vampire Slayer. Dominic saves Shawn's life and becomes his master--or does he? As fiercely independent as he is beautiful, Shawn leads Nic on a merry chase and an exciting adventure as they battle rogues, slayers and their own feelings for each other. Now in this sequel, they team up with Shawn's two brothers, newly mated to vampires themselves, in an adventure to save the world from destruction.
Here's a blurb from the new book--see what you think--
Shawn and Dominic enjoy a wonderful love life but everything else in their world is going to hell. Luke, Shawn’s brother, has awakened to find his new vampire master Vincenzo is gorgeous, sexy and male. Vincenzo has to keep him sedated constantly, and that’s the least of his problems. Someone reported to the council that Luke was turned against his will. The council summons them all, along with Melvin and Hanley, Shawn’s remaining brother. When the three couples arrive, they learn that not only are they in serious trouble with the council, but their arch enemies, the Sabbatarians, have launched an attack directed squarely at them. Harnessing the power of demonic ghouls, the Sabbs hope to bring about a final battle with the vampires. Unless Shawn and Nic can find a way to defeat them, the world will be destroyed. Only the power of their love stands between them and the destruction of the world—will it be enough?
Something surged out of the kitchen behind them, its gait awkward and lurching, but its hideous face animated and alive. Streaming black wisps of shadows trailed behind it, and the head it turned toward them was something out of a nightmare, a hyena face, its mouth slavering and brimming with sharp teeth. The eyes were holes of darkness, without white or iris. Something like hellfire flamed in their depths.
Melvin turned and stopped its advance with a fist to its gut, tossing it back, as it howled with rage. They raced up the stairs ahead of the others swarming from the kitchen. The front door crashed open below them, adding more to the pursuit. Melvin, Hanley, and Nic ran for the front of the house, while Shawn, Vincenzo, and Luke veered off in the opposite direction.
Shawn’s group made it to a balcony in one of the bedrooms at the back. Vincenzo dragged a huge broken armoire across the door as Shawn and Luke saturated strips of cloth they’d found littering the floor downstairs, and thrust them into the bottles necks.
"Throw them as we jump." Luke grabbed Vincenzo’s arm and pulled him over to the windows. The sheer mass of bodies was already pushing the armoire out of the way. "But throw them in front of the door, so we can trap them inside."
They lit the improvised fuses, threw the flaming bottles, and jumped from the balcony. Landing on the ground, they rolled back to their feet as the bottles shattered and the fuel erupted into roaring flames behind them.
Similar sounds came from the other side of the house, and horrible howls and squeals sounded from inside. A few stragglers forced their way through the boarded up windows, one with fire licking down his back as he ran, but they were quickly dispatched by the vampires, as they simply ripped the ghouls apart.
"Take their heads and toss them into the fire," Vincenzo shouted.
A huge explosion, much bigger than the ones before, blew out every portal of the structure, the force knocking all three of them down. After a long moment, Shawn caught his breath and sat up. "What the hell was that?"
Beside him, Luke grinned and shrugged. "I turned on all the gas jets on the stove while we were in the kitchen."
Shawn put back his head and laughed, while Vincenzo leaned over to give Luke a hard kiss on the lips. Luke’s expression of open mouthed shock had Shawn falling on his back laughing again.
Nic shouted his name, coming around the side of the house. Shawn rose up on one elbow as Nip raced over to him, only to be jerked to his feet and embraced fiercely before Nic thrust him away, his eyes blasting with fury. "Never separate like that from me again! Do you hear me?"
Shawn shoved him hard in the chest and shouted back at him. "What was I supposed to do? You said three to the front and three to the back! Melvin and Vincenzo didn’t want to separate from their mates any more than you did! I made a quick decision, damn it!"
Nic was still too distraught to admit Shawn was right. Instead he pointed a long, elegant finger in his face. "Shut up!" Then he grabbed him and hugged him tight enough that Shawn thought he might have broken a rib or two. After a moment, Nic thrust him away, grabbed his hand and dragged him toward the car. The others followed more slowly, Melvin making sure nothing had survived to follow them.
